    Claims and Test Results

The claims on these pages are mainly based on results from tests conducted by Strategy Analytics, an independent global company specialising in market analysis. In some cases, tests were also conducted in laboratories at Sony Mobile Communications Inc.

All claims were verified at the time of testing. However, as the mobile landscape changes quickly and new phone models are released on a continuous basis, we cannot guarantee that all claims are still valid as you read this. Please see the date specified at the bottom of each claim and test specification for reference.

World’s highest level of waterproofing available in a smartphone*

Sony Xperia™ M2 Aqua is protected against the ingress of water and dust to the highest levels specified by the Ingress Protection standards 6X (dust tight), X5 (resistant to jets of water) and X8 (waterproof on submersion to 1 m for over 30 minutes).

There are some devices in China which could be considered equal-best (Huawei Ascend G350 and Konka W880) with IP68, however distribution of these is very limited in comparison with Xperia™ M2 Aqua, and they do not specify IP65 as well as IP68, unlike the Sony device.

    * Xperia™ M2 Aqua is a dust-tight and waterproof (in compliance with IP65/68) smartphone. Specifications verified by Strategy Analytics’ SpecTRAX and PriceTRAX Services as of 17 July 2014.

World’s highest smartphone battery capacity in its category**

Sony Xperia™ M2 Aqua is equipped with a 2,300-mAh battery, the largest seen in this product group (waterproof smartphones retailing for less than EUR 250 net).

Close competitors again are the Huawei Honor 3 (2,150 mAh) and Kyocera with its 2,000-mAh battery in the Hydro XTRM, both of which have very limited channels of availability.

** Category defined by Strategy Analytics as water-resistant smartphones with a global launch price of less than EUR 250 NET (MSRP/RRP). Xperia™ M2 Aqua is a waterproof (in compliance with IP65/68) smartphone with a 2,300-mAh battery. Specifications verified by Strategy Analytics’ SpecTRAX and PriceTRAX Services as of 17 July 2014.

Xperia™ M2 Aqua has the highest Ingress Protection rating (IP65/68) of any smartphone retailing for less than EUR 250 net.

Xperia™ M2 Aqua is one of the only 4G waterproof devices currently available in the sub-EUR 250 net price tier. Of these devices, Xperia™ M2 Aqua has the highest level of ingress protection to water and dust (waterproof/dust tight).

Xperia™ M2 Aqua has a wide distribution footprint that greatly exceeds many competitor devices available in a limited number of countries, meaning that the device is highly accessible and may provide the only mainstream waterproof smartphone option in specific territories.
