Use the slide-out keyboard

Your slide-out keyboard can detect which application you are using and assist you in entering text for that application. For example, if you are viewing the conversations list in the Messaging application, you can slide out the keyboard and immediately start entering text for a new message you want to send.

To use the slide-out keyboard:

  1. Change the character case and turn on caps lock. For some languages, this key is used to access extra characters in the language.
  2. Mode toggle key – Press here to activate associated keys featuring characters of the same color. For example, press this key once and then press the “Q” key to enter “1″. To lock the mode toggle key, press it twice before pressing the associated keys. Press again after text input to unlock it.
  3. Display symbols and smileys.
  4. Enter a space.
  5. Navigate left and right within a text field, or among other word and character options.
  6. Navigate up and down within a text field, across rows, or among other word and character options.
  7. Open the text input settings menu to change, for example, the writing languages. This key also changes the writing language when more than one input language is selected.
  8. Enter a carriage return or confirm text input.
  9. Delete a character before the cursor.

To shift between lower-case and upper-case letters:

  • Before you type a word, press the Change character case key in the lower left corner until Aa is shown in the status bar, or vice versa for a.

To turn on the caps lock:

  • Before you type a word, press the Change character case key in the lower left corner until A is shown in the status bar.

To enter numbers or symbols:

  • When you enter text, press the Mode toggle key in the bottom left corner. Press the associated key featuring characters of the same color.

To insert a smiley:

  • When you enter text, press the Sym key in the bottom left corner. Select a smiley.

To delete characters:

  • Tap or place the cursor after the character you want to delete, then press the Delete key in the top right corner.

To enter a carriage return:

  • When you enter text, press the Carriage return key in the upper right corner.

To edit text:

  1. When you enter text, touch and hold the text field until the Edit text menu appears.
  2. Select an option.
