Security statement to users of Sony Mobile phones based on the Android™ operating system

Sony Mobile understands that maintaining the security of your phone is important. Sony Mobile devices are equipped with data security protections consistent with industry standards at the time the device is released. In order to help you combat additional, new or evolving threats, Sony Mobile will issue security updates from time to time.

Sony Mobile phones based on the Android™ operating system will be capable of receiving these security updates via download using the OTA (over the air) method. Please install these security updates as soon as you receive notice of them. If you don’t install them immediately, you will receive reminders to do so. If you have difficulty downloading and installing the update or need additional assistance, please visit or contact Sony Mobile Support at http://www.sonymobile.com.

The download of security updates may involve sending of data through your service provider’s network for which your network service provider may charge. Sony Mobile cannot be held responsible for any such charges. If the phone you have is designed for specific operator, such updates may be delivered under operator’s approval. You should always make backup copies of all the information stored on your Sony Mobile product such as downloads, calendar and contacts before installing any security updates. Sony Mobile does not take any responsibility for any lost information of any kind and will not reimburse you for any such loss.

Sony Mobile advises you to only accept and use applications from a reputable trusted source. Sony Mobile cannot and does not take responsibility for third-party applications or other applications that you may have downloaded to your phone. You are responsible for applying security updates for these downloaded applications. Sony Mobile’s provision and updating of security protections does not ensure that your use of this product will be free from exposure to hacking or other unauthorised device access or that the product will be impervious to, viruses, malware or other harmful software. SONY MOBILE’S ISSUANCE OF THIS STATEMENT AS WELL AS THE PROVISION OF ACTUAL SECURITY PROTOCOLS DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. ALL SUCH WARRANTIES ARE DISCLAIMED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

If you discover an issue with your Sony Mobile phone based on the Android™ operating system that presents a security risk to yourself or other users, please report this immediately at softwaresecurity@sonymobile.com
