The battery runs flat too fast

If the battery runs flat too fast:

  • Close applications and other functions when not used, for example, Bluetooth™, Wi-Fi®, web browser, and media player. The battery consumption is increased when several applications or functions run at the same time, or are active.
  • Check the signal strength. If low or no signal strength, move to a location free from obstruction to improve reception. When in poor network coverage areas, your phone frequently scans for a network connection, which consumes battery.
  • Lower the screen display brightness level.
  • Certain applications may be drawing excessive battery power. If you are experiencing shorter battery life after downloading an application, try uninstalling or moving the application to the memory card.
  • Some Market™ applications can drain battery power unexpectedly, with data requests and processes running in the background. Deleting widgets alone for these applications will not stop the application from pulling the data; the application itself must be uninstalled, or killed temporarily, with a Task Manager or Application Killer.
  • Charge your phone often. This will not affect the lifetime of the battery. If charging the phone using a computer, the charging time will vary based on the computer specifications. If the battery is low, your phone will not immediately power up when you connect it to a computer via a USB cable.

To extend the battery life:

  • Access the battery usage menu. From the Home screen, tap the Application screens icon. Then find and tap Settings > About phone > Battery use to see which installed applications consume the most battery power.
  • Add the Status switch widget to the Home screen. From the Home screen, press the Menu key. Then tap Add > Widgets and select the Status switch widget.
  • Add the Power control widget to your Home screen. From the Home screen, press the Menu key. Then tap Add > Widgets and select the Power Control widget.
  • Adjust the screen brightness. From the Home screen, tap the Application screens icon. Then find and tap Settings > Sound & Display / Display > Brightness. Drag the slider to the left and tap OK.
  • Turn off all data traffic over mobile networks. From the Home screen, tap the Application screens icon. Then find and tap Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks. Unmark the Data enabled checkbox.
  • Uninstall or move applications. From the Home screen, tap the Application screens icon. Then find and tap Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All (only Android 2.3). Locate the application and select an option.
