Advanced Wi-Fi® settings

To see Wi-Fi™ network information in your Status bar:

  • Check the Wi-Fi™ connection icon in the status bar to see the approximate signal strength of a connected Wi-Fi™ network.

Note: If you have enabled Network notification in the Wi-Fi settings this icon will appear whenever a new Wi-Fi™ network is detected.

To set advanced Wi-Fi™ settings:

  1. From the Home screen, find and tap Settings.
  2. Tap Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Tap Advanced:
    • To add a Wi-Fi™ sleep policy, tap Wi-Fi sleep policy and select an option.
    • To set up the phone to connect to a Wi-Fi™ network using a static IP address, mark the Use static IP check box. Select the settings needed for your Wi-Fi™ network. Tap the text bar to enter information and tap OK.
    • When done, press the Menu key and tap Save.

To add a Wi-Fi™ network manually:

  1. From the Home screen, find and tap Settings.
  2. Tap Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings.
  3. If needed, mark the Wi-Fi checkbox. Tap Add Wi-Fi network.
  4. Tap the Network SSID text bar to enter the name of the Wi-Fi™ network, then tap Done.
  5. Tap the Security field to select a security type for the Wi-Fi™ network.
  6. If required, tap the Wireless password text bar to enter the password for the Wi-Fi™ network.
  7. Tap Save.

Note: Contact your Wi-Fi™ network administrator to get the Network SSID name and Wireless password.
