Sony is upgrading your 2011 Xperia™ smartphone to Android 4.0
In with the new. All 2011 Xperia phones* can be upgraded for free to Android 4.0. The update builds on everything you already love about your Xperia smartphone, maximising its features, functionality, and ease of use. You’ll enjoy a superior Xperia™ smartphone experience once you update.
Do more while your phones locked. Interact with all of your messages and most recent events, stop and play your favourite tracks and manage your music, without having to unlock your phone.
Find your friends. When you start typing your friends’ names or numbers, your phonebook will automatically start finding them for you. Saving you time and effort!
Everything in one place. We’re giving you a better overview of all your home screen widgets. Start customising them by expanding your favourites to view more content and shrink others to save space.
No need for passwords. For Sony phones with front-facing cameras, you can now unlock your phone with your face. State-of-the-art facial recognition technology registers your face during setup and recognises it again when unlocking the device. Simple.
Multitasking made easy. By long-pressing the home key, the recent apps view will appear to help you jump instantly from one ask to another; while notifications help you keep in touch with all your messages, music, and more. We’ve even introduced a ‘live’ view, so that you can get to your favourite apps faster.
Manage your data. Keep up-to-date on your usage, by tracking your data consumption. You can even follow the background data your applications and widgets use, and set limits or warning levels, to ensure that you never go over your data plan.
In a meeting? Out with friends? Or just busy? You can now reject incoming calls with one quick text message to let people know what you’re doing and when you’ll be in touch.
Manage your time with the help of colour coded calendars. From work, social, through to family and friends, we help you stay on top of your events – all in one place. You can even let your applications add to events in your calendar and manage reminders, so that you don’t have to.
Love social networking? Sync your calendar and contact list with Facebook to integrate your social world into your phone and make sure you’re always connected with friends. You can even browse your Facebook photo albums and ‘Like’ your favourite music tracks.
Faster results. By creating email subfolders, you can organise and search your emails across folders on your server for easy access. And syncing your phone means that you can stay connected and keep track of all your incoming messages.
Stay in touch with the people that matter. We’ve integrated your social and contact groups for easy accessibility across apps, social networks, incoming calls and emails. You can also link your phonebook to Facebook, so that you can see your friends’ Facebook information and gain quick access to their profiles. And why not add your favourite friends into one easy-to-manage list?
Get the full experience. Set your phone to request the desktop version of sites, so that you always get the most out of them. You can even set your preference for sites separately in new browser tabs. Save it for later. For longer content, or those moments when network coverage isn’t available, you can easily save a copy to read later when you are offline.
Bookmarking made easy. The new Android browser lets you easily bookmark your favourite content and categorise it. You can even sync up and manage your bookmarks from all of your accounts. Got lots open? Flick through your online activity in our live stream view, to switch between open sites with ease.
Sounds good. You can now say where you want to go with our new voice controlled URL search system and we’ll take you there. A powerful voice input engine, available in over 20 languages, will detect the site you’d like to visit without you having to type a thing.
Ready for action. Make the most of your image gallery by syncing it with your Facebook albums. Scroll through your photo stack to shuffle pictures, display albums or show a single image. Or you can use Google’s Image Gallery to manage and share your photos by time, location, friends, and tags.
Share your screen. By pressing the power and volume down buttons at the same time, you can now take screenshots. When you are happy with your screenshot you can view, edit, and share it in your Gallery, on a similar app or with friends.
